Macro Monday - {Tampa Photographer}

I came inside for today's Macro Monday post.  I've always been fascinated with water splashes and the like, especially when I shoot swimming.  I also like how the water is reflective even down to the little drops!  Thus, the inspiration for today - water dripping from the tap and a silk miniature orchid behind it.  I still have a lot of practice to go to get this type of shot exactly where I want it, but not too bad for an impromptu "let's see how this works" type adventure.   :)

Macro Monday - {Tampa's Nature Photographer}

Today's Macro Monday blog comes to you from some place other than my own yard!  I actually shot these back in December on my trip to the Everglades with my husband for our 20th Anniversary.  Unfortunately I've not had a chance to edit them, much to both our dismay.  I WILL do those soon, but in the meantime, at least this week's blog will help get a few of them processed.

With that said, today's blog brings you some dragonflies, doing what you don't usually see, at least I've never seen it.  Dragonflies, well, uhh, making more dragonflies!  We were hiking a trail in Fakahatchee Strand State Park out to this lake - which was an adventure in and of itself - when my husband spotted the two love birds, er dragonflies.  I didn't have my macro on my camera and I wasn't sure how long an event such as this lasts, so I made due with the 70-200 that was on my camera to get these.

Macro Monday - {Tampa Nature Photographer}

Today's Macro Monday post comes to you from...yes...my yard.  I swear I will venture away from home one of these days for Macro Monday, but there's just so much darn stuff to shoot around here!   Have you ever noticed all those yellow "dots" on your plant near the flowers?  They look like dots to me and I'm  sure that part of it is because I need to get glasses for more than just when I'm reading and on the computer.  The other part is that these "dots" or aphids as they are properly known by, are so darn small!   I never really knew what they looked like until I got them up close on the computer.  They have these black "horn" type things, are some are covered in a white "hairy" looking substance and some look like little babies following their mom as in the first picture.  If you note, there's a green one in the bottom corner.  Wonder if that one is really really young?    I guess I will have to do some research on aphids!

Spencer - {Tampa Newborn Photographer}

Meet Spencer!  When I first spoke to Spencer's mom about getting some newborn shots done, Spencer was already about 3 weeks old.  Newborn portraits are usually done within the first 10 days when they are the sleepiest and "curliest," allowing for many of the newborn images you see today.   But you know what?  Spencer rocked it!  Every time I thought I had a favorite image, I would finish one and it would become my favorite.  Oh well.  Nothing wrong with that!  Without any further ado, here's Spencer...

I LOVE it when I can catch a smile!

Ten little toes...

Seriously?   Doesn't he look like an angel?

I adore baby close ups!

The boys!

A little brotherly love!

Macro Monday - {Tampa Bay Photographer}

Happy Monday!  Hope you have a great day...or had one...depending on when you are reading this. :)   Today's Macro Monday is a sequel my previous Sunflower Macro Monday post which you can see here. Our beautiful garden sunflower opened!  It's huge and...well wavy in the middle, the latter not being a feature I was expecting.  Next step for this flower is to dry it out when all the seeds mature, roast them and enjoy a yummy snack.

I captured these early morning with the rising sun's light.  Kind of made sense for a "sun" flower.

See what I mean by "wavy"?
And you don't always have to get in close with your macro.  It is great for pulled out shots as well!

USCGC Blackthorn Follow Up - {Tampa Bay Photographer}

Back in January I share photos from the USCGC Blackthorn Memorial held off St. Petersburg Skyway Bridge.  You can read about if you missed it by clicking here.   I received an email this weekend from a woman named Jessica.  She told me that her uncle Glen Harrison was one of the Blackthorn's crew that perished that horrible night.  Jessica found my blog and the photos through her efforts to create a scrapbook for her grandmother, Glen's mother.  She asked if I had any additional photos, but more specifically one of her uncle's flower with his name.    My first thought was that I probably didn't.  I had only photographed 5 roses being lain down.  And of those, only a couple were up close.  I went back and looked at my images that I had not processed and to my surprise and chills, one of those roses WAS his!  The ribbon is facing the other way, but you can clearly see that it is his name.  I couldn't believe that of the over  20 roses that were put down, HIS was one of the ones that was photographed and that his niece would somehow find my blog and write to me.    It is such a small world and I guess we could say it was coincidence, but I do believe that there is a higher power or spirit that helps guide us to certain discoveries and experiences.

I also have to say a big Thank You to all those that serve in the Coast Guard and our Military for their sacrifices and all they do allowing us to do what we do every day.

Here's the SA Glen E. Harrison's rose:
